Ah… the life of a football fan. Week after week of joy, suffering, thrills, tears and everything in between. This season has had everything, not only for us at AWFC but the league as a whole. Its gonna be a fascinating last few weeks and I’m really excited to see what happens.
I’m also at a point, like I mentioned a couple of days ago, when I just want the season to end, and there’s a very specific, personal reason. I want to know what the squad will be looking like next season AS SOON AS POSSIBLE because I need to prepare myself for what could be.
I need to know, ASAP, that our regular starters are coming back. I need to know ASAP that if they don’t, we buy the right players for the right systems and the right moments. The league is more competitive than ever and in my opinion we need a lot of changes in the squad. Some players, for me, just aren’t good enough for the club, even if they’ve played out of their skin in recent times.I also would like to see more players of color at the club.This last point can be a topic for a whole different series of blogs and podcasts but I won’t get into that today, I just know that overall I would like to see more diversity.
My point is that I think this off season we need to be super aggressive and get star players in and quite honestly I don’t really worry if Pelova, LWM and a couple of other’s growth suffers from that. I’m totally cool with ready made players coming in.
I TOTALLY LOVE THE ACADEMY AND BRINGING IN PLAYERS THROUGH THE SYSTEM, don’t get me wrong. Just making sure I express that.
I mean, let’s look at LWM for example. She has proven me wrong time and time again this season. She has gotten so much better and the way she is off the pitch is nothing short of inspiring. I think there’s something special about her that exceeds football and my only criticism of her is less about HER as much as it is that I would really like to see her play farther up the pitch. I think she would be a very good DM actually, but without Leah, we need her at the back. Would I trade anything she did for the club thus far? Absolutely not. Did she deserve to play? Of course she did. Did she deserve to be the unfortunate person to make a mistake vs Wolfsburg? Hell no. She only deserves great things. Nothing but.
So if Leah is a 10, and LWM isn’t, I would rather have someone close to Leah, it’s not that I don’t think LWM isn’t “good enough” for our club. Of course she is and as with all women players, they are bigger than a club, they’re all historic, trailblazers.
However, I much rather have someone like LWM than basically anyone in football because of her social consciousness and all that incredible added value that inspires communities, more than an average “better player” would.
I don’t have to make the choices, nor do I have a preference per se. I just want whatever happens to happen soon so I know what to expect because I’m impatient and childish.
