Let’s assume for a moment that you aren’t too familiar with the rivalry between the men’s Arsenal and Man Utd teams which was at its peak between say 96 and 2006. Let’s assume that you don’t remember that in (I wanna say but not sure) 2012, Arsene Wenger sold Robin Van Persie to Manchester United. Let’s assume you were lucky enough to see him wear the red devils’s shirt. Let’s assume that you don’t remember him winning the league and having his best season ever. These were such brutal and frustrating times. To have your favorite player (not ever, but my favorite player at the time) move on to your biggest rivals was shocking, terrible, disgusting and it filled me with such confusion.
This is why Russo to Arsenal is such a massive thing. It’s about time we get one back. Getting Man Utd’s striker… their player of the year… their star… their north… their future. It makes us incredibly stronger and it makes them incredibly weaker and ideally, the first domino to fall and the club might just become a hot mess. And it’s not that I wish them bad… I don’t. I don’t wish any struggle upon any player, except against us during a match, not in general.
Yes, of course I could go on and on about how great she is and this and that but you don’t wanna hear that from me. What I will say, again, is how this to me, as an older, bitter Arsenal fan, is a little payback for RVP.
