I’m not in the business of telling people what to do but I didn’t really know how else to title this particular blog post. Oh and by the way, I will be recording a podcast later today, thought I would be doing it super early today but I started working on a song and went all in. Safe to say I wasn’t happy with the outcome and need to re do it all later today. Nice…
What I absolutely cannot stand is when people describe a player’s comeback from injury with phrases like these: “it’s as if she never left!” Like I understand what they are tryin to say but I just immediately think of the journey to hell and back that these athletes went through, just for someone to use a catchy phrase that, even though I’m sure they don’t mean it, TO ME it minimizes a lot of the work.
Obviously there are grays to this conversation and again I don’t think the commentators, podcasters, etc mean any harm. I think that they see those comments as a compliment and I totally understand. I just can’t help to think what I think at the moment the second I hear things like that. I feel there can be something added to the comment that contextualizes more of the magnitude of what it means to come back.
To a degree, I think it also puts on pressure on other players coming back that aren’t returning in full force like some players do. Some of them take much longer, depending on position, technical abilities and of course on how the coach chooses to use them, and to this point WTF was the best striker ever playing out wide? Anyway that’s for another day.
It’s definitely NOT like any of them were ever out. It’s been an arduous process for us fans, now imagine how insane it’s been for these players. Not only from a sentimental standpoint for me as a fan, but also for the team itself, the results, and the success of the club as a whole.
Again, not telling people what to do or how to characterize whatever it is that they feel, it just feels a little yucky whenever I hear it.
I haven’t watched the documentary yet and not sure when I will do it if at all. Might be too tough to watch.
Enjoy your week!
