I take breaks from Twitter from time to time. Things can get a bit overwhelming as I am very interested in US and Venezuela Politics and of course the numerous wars, pop culture, music in addition to my obsession with football and Arsenal Women.
Like most of you, a lot of the news, transfers, rumors, etc all of these things are consumed via social media but ever speaking of twitter, ever since Musk took over it has turned into the worst place on the internet and the toxicity of it all is just way too much for me to take, so I have taken a long break from that and by the looks of it and judging on how much freedom I feel, I don’t know if I will come back.
You might not want to hear this but one of the biggest issues for me is how toxic the Arsenal Women fans are becoming. The worst parts of the men’s fandom and the men’s culture of hate is becoming way too common. The way people talk about Viv and call her a traitor, among many other examples and many other things, it’s pretty disgusting and I don’t want to be a part of that.
I stopped interacting with people that I think are toxic, I muted them, some of the worst of the worst have blocked me like this one guy who was also racist but that’s just another issue altogether but overall it feels great. GREAT.
Of course I can understand people thinking I’m toxic and people blocking me, etc of course I get that, but a. I don’t care and b. I can’t see it anyone wether it’s hate or praise, I’m just over it and if “the community” means what this is becoming than I am gladly staying out of it, as I always have and my contact with the club and what it means to me is between the club and I, the players and I, the past and I, etc.
So if you’re debating whether to leave social media or take a break, I’m here to tell you that you should absolutely do it. It’s worth it. Your peace of mind is worth it and I encourage you to explore it.
More importantly, never ever forget 2 things. One of them is that arsenal women twitter is NOT the whole of arsenal women supporters. It’s just not and it’s not a true reflection of what the club is and what the fans are about. The second thing is that players read this stuff and if you don’t think this is a thing you’re lying to yourself and if you’re one of those toxic people that put stuff out hoping players will read it then it might be time to audit what you’re about.
The same people that tweet so much negativity and judgmental things about Viv and other players are people that not only would love to meet the players and be their friends, but they would never ever say those things to their face and needless to say they are literally the person that the players would avoid in their private lives at all costs. Like nobody ever wants to be friends with someone that spends all their time hating players or judging them for a move to another club.
Life is so precious and so short to waste it on hate and by the same token good grief can we just get a new manager already. haha.
