We lost a true LEGEND.
A trailblazer.
An Icon.
A goddess.
I am deeply saddened and touched about her passing and the past couple of days have been a little overwhelming with not just the sad news but because of all the beautiful messages from people of all walks of life and I cannot remember a more universally loved person getting so many tributes.
Celebrity culture is interesting and as woso fans we are very much part of that. There’s an entire parasocial situation that gets thrown around way too often by people that aren’t qualified to diagnose that and I say this as someone who has done this before and boy have I been accused of that…
I am privileged and lucky enough to say that I met Dolly and performed with her alongside Miley a few years ago when MC hosted a New Year’s Eve Show and Dolly co-hosted. She was magical…
She was professional, hard working, kind, said hello to every single band member and crew member, thanked everyone around her, knew her lines, looked stunning and had an aura that not only was undeniable but it was unforgettable.
Dolly would GLIDE, she wouldn’t walk… it was as if she was hovering because she was a deity… a goddess in human form.
One thing I always told people when they asked me about what it was like to play with her and my answer was this: you know how you sometimes you’re hanging out with friends, or at a restaurant, a plane, etc and someone with a strong cologne or perfume show up and it overwhelms everything (good or bad) and they leave and the scent stays?
Well, Dolly was almost the opposite… we would be rehearsing and suddenly you could smell a beautiful scent… your senses would awaken and you could feel her. Her scent preceded her. This is unlike anything I’ve ever seen, because even though you could literally feel an energy shift when certain musicians and artists are in the vicinity, this was like sensory overload.
Now what does this have to do with woso? I truly don’t mean to make myself a link or use her passing as a way to engage or create content.
What I do see is that women like Dolly, and literally her, gave millions of women permission to be themselves, to be kind, to be bold and beautiful and badass. She set a blueprint for business minded women. She has reached not just musicians but any and all women who lived on planet earth, a male centric bullshit space that in 2026 continues to make shit hard for all of you.
The world would be even worse if she hadn’t graced us with her love and the world will be nowhere near as good without her in it.
Tell your loved ones that you love them. All the time.
Here’s a video of us playing Wrecking Ball and I Will Always Love You
