Needless to say I love Renee and respect her. My level of admiration for her has no bounds and I’m only saying what I’m going to say not because it is HER saying it but because it is a manager of my football club saying these things.
The best way that I can describe it is via a lyric by the one and only David Byrne of The Talking Heads. They have a great song, which I’m sure you’ve heard, called Psycho Killer and in it, David sings: “You’re talking a lot, but you’re not saying anything.”
Am I the only one feeling like every press conference isa deja vu? The same thing over and over but nothing being actually said? It is something that makes me a little uneasy and I’ll tell you why.
A manager is a position which holds much control, relevance and responsibility and one of the most important things you can have is proper communication skills in order to lead, to inform, to guide, to motivate, and so on. Now, I am not doubting her ability to do any of that behind the scenes but her on camera speeches are a bit confusing and it makes me wonder if the players are confused as well.
There is such a thing as being too nice which in turn can mean not being ruthless and when all is said and done that is an attribute I would like my manage to have. A stone cold killer and a serial winner.
Renee can be that, I just don’t know how much time we can afford to wait for that to happen. Til the club makes a decision, whatever that is, I’m afraid some results might only be paper over cracks.
Not calling for her to be sacked, but if that has to happen for AWFC to win a title, then so be it.
