The thing about football is that at the end of the day it’s an irrational sport and we cannot rationalize something that is irrational. I can tell you how I have little to no confidence going into tomorrow’s (its before midnight in LA still) match vs Chelsea and at the same time I have the, perhaps, irrational confidence that this is the perfect game for Cerci to score 2 goals, Leah to head one in two and for us to keep a clean sheet.
But here is another piece of how I see things:
If we don’t turn things around TOMORROW I’m afraid the WSL campaign is essentially over. Not just because of the points that we have dropped but because losing against this Chelsea team means one thing and one thing only: Katie McCabe. Which means that we beat ourselves. We did this. We are to blame and by “we” I mean Clare and the board and whomever is responsible. We will deserve the result.
The hate, the vitriol, the insults…. it will be out of control on social media.
Speaking of irrational, it is also so illogical and fucked up and also logical and normal to see McCabe, Mead, Lia and DvD playing some of their best football in years, and the fact that they aren’t playing for us is absolutely unacceptable.
I would also like to say, with the utmost respect, a big fuck you to anyone that actively campaigned to move any of those players on. May you go to bed every day of your life knowing that you have no fucking idea what you’re talking about.
Oh and happy Sunday too.
The amount of abuse I’ve gotten through the years for standing up for these players has been an abomination and its safe to say that arsenal women fans (not you, you absolute legend) have jumped the shark and shit is just not how it once was. The abuse, the insults, the continuous obsession with players’s dating lives, the rumours that start, etc etc etc. It has ruined the sport and it’s so fucking toxic and lame. Shame on those people.
Also, to my choice of title, I cannot stress enough how much we have fumbled football. We have fumbled the CL win and we never truly followed up in the way we should’ve with the right transfers.
